Ridiculous

This is one of the funniest and most ridiculous things I have read in a while. The toy does seem to be on a creepy side, but the Conservatives' objections are even freakier. These objections are probably made by the same people who demand that nursing mothers stay at home with their offspring until they wean or retreat to dirty bathrooms to nurse. And they give all the other Conservatives a bad name.

  1. Breastfeeding is natural. So is pooping, so is sex. Should that be done in public too?
Maybe they should make pooping dolls that really smell for authenticity sake.

  2. I am sick of people comparing breastfeeding to defecation. It is not the same thing. I assume you, as an adult, have no problem eating in the presence of others? Why is feeding your child any different?

  3. I am not comparing breastfeeding to defecating, I'm simply trying to make a point that not everything that's natural needs to be done in public. I have no problem with women who feel like breastfeeding in public, but I personally don't feel comfortable doing that. Breastfeeding is a bit different than simply "feeding" your child because a very private body part of mine is involved.

  4. What you do personally is your business. This has nothing to do with anything being natural or otherwise, btw, or even what women "feel" like - this is about an infant's needs. It is sometimes necessary for a woman to be outside of her house, with a hungry infant. There is nothing wrong, and there is nothing sexual about her feeding him. Not to mention that most women I know are able to breastfeed without exposing themselves.

  5. Sophie, I agree with you. Not everything natural needs to be done in public. On the other hand, I am with Dina - there's nothing wrong with nursing your kid in public if done modestly. (As a side point, I don't know anyone who just "whips it out"; everyone who I saw nursing in public covers up to some degree, most of the time completely.) Everyone should pick what they are comfortable with when it comes to nursing their offspring. And if I cover myself up completely and it still makes someone uncomfortalbe - well, that's not really my problem, unless I am in their house.

However, this article is not talking about it at all. I think it would be wonderful if someone made a pooping doll. And it would be even more wonderful if we as consumers exercised our right to not buy it if it grossed us out. There's nothing inherently immoral with a pooping doll. Thing much worse are available to the kids.

What I find completely moronic is that some conservative idiots think that a nursing doll would make girls more likely to become unwed teenage mothers. Really? To me it sounds just as likely as pooping dolls making "zasrantzy" (poopers) out of their pre-teen owners.

  7. If a girl wants to pretend she's nursing a doll, she could just hold the doll against her in a nursing position. It's really OK to leave some things to the imagination.
Why must there be something for the girl to strap on? That little addition, TO ME, personally implies a flawed sense of modesty. Yes, the NO NO word, MODESTY.
Like Subwife said, ladies who breastfeed in public cover up, in which case a little girl should not feel the need for strap on nipples to be included with her baby doll in order to pretend she's breastfeeding.

  8. Sophie, i don't think we are disagreeing here. I also find the doll creepy. that's why I won't buy it for my kid. but would owning it make a little girl more likely to become a teenage mother?

  9. Pooping doll would be great for potty training! Esp if the kid would have clean up after it.
