The idea of mandating anything relating to parenting should be done extremely carefully, with the main idea of what's best for this kids and why are we mandating it? I sincerely doubt that being in preschool that long that young is in the best interest of the child. My own children were in that setting, but it was because we had no choice and with full understanding on my part that the situation is not ideal. They had never gone when one of us was home.

another point is that we must be very careful when mandating anything relating to how kids must be raised. There are instances where government is justified in intervening, but school for 3 year olds? Really? This is insanity. and to me, government abuse of its power.SubWifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10130118656023678187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1939423437960053438.post-8822522156638207502011-10-25T01:14:54.301-04:002011-10-25T01:14:54.301-04:00Here in Israel they plan to have mandatory prescho...Here in Israel they plan to have mandatory preschool, for free, from age 3, from 8am to 4pm. They don't stress early reading here, but the idea of this makes me ill (even though I know most Israeli children already are in such arrangements, albeit private).mother in israelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13715046177293916034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1939423437960053438.post-59039058157544878762011-10-10T23:18:32.793-04:002011-10-10T23:18:32.793-04:00Waldorf-style schools, by the way, follow this phi...Waldorf-style schools, by the way, follow this philosophy. It's ...Better late than early, most assuredly. It's madness, what they are doing to the young kids in our system. Many, many kids are not ready to read until 6 and a half or later. My oldest couldn't read until 9. Then it took him, oh, 3 weeks. A month after that, he was reading Harry Potter. I hate to think what would have happened to him had he been forced to "learn" reading for 3 or 4 solid years before he was ready. It's crazy, crazy, crazy. Every single study shows that young kids learn best by playing. Kindergarten should be all play.Suburban Correspondenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11488916572135296650noreply@blogger.com
